NCC Hosts 185 Girls At Communications Museum, Highlights Tijani’s Digital Inclusion Agenda

NCC

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has praised the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, for championing programmes designed to equip Nigerian girls with digital skills and encourage greater participation in the technology sector.

The Commission made the commendation during the 2026 National Girls in ICT Programme, where it hosted 185 female students from across the country on an educational tour of the National Communications Museum in Abuja.

According to the NCC, the initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to bridge the gender gap in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and inspire more young women to pursue opportunities in the digital economy.

During the visit, the students explored exhibits showcasing the evolution of telecommunications in Nigeria, gaining insights into the country’s communications journey from early telephony systems to modern broadband and digital technologies.

The Commission said the tour was designed to provide participants with a practical understanding of the industry’s history and development while exposing them to emerging opportunities within the ICT ecosystem.

“Nigeria’s digital future depends on the active participation of all segments of society, including young girls,” the NCC noted, adding that the programme seeks to encourage students to see themselves as future innovators, entrepreneurs and technology leaders.

The Commission further explained that exposing girls to the foundations and possibilities of ICT could stimulate greater interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education and technology-related careers.

According to the NCC, the initiative aligns with broader national efforts to promote digital inclusion and ensure that more girls have access to opportunities in the country’s rapidly expanding digital economy.

Officials also stressed the importance of reducing barriers that limit female participation in technology, noting that greater gender inclusion in ICT would contribute to innovation, economic growth and sustainable national development.

The educational excursion was one of several activities organised under the National Girls in ICT Programme, an initiative aimed at nurturing young female talent and encouraging increased participation of girls in technology-driven fields across Nigeria.
