Executive Chairman of Agege Local Government Council of Lagos, Honourable Vinod Abdul-Ganiu Obasa has expressed his satisfaction with the performance of teams played in the opening match of the second edition of 2026 Obasa football tournament tagged’Obasa Summer Game’
The annual football tournament which kicked off on Friday st the Ideal Primary School, Tabon-Tabon, Agege was sponsored by Agege Council Boss, Obasa.
In the opening match, Amoroso FA lost 1-3 to Adwaaik FA as Agege Sports Development Initiative ADDITION also lost 2-3 to Zion FC.
Obasa who was among the dignitaries that watched the two opening matches told journalists after the encounter that he was impressed with the performance of the four teams noted that there are talents who can represent Agege in the future national football teams.
In his explanation, Obasa said the tournament was sponsored to encourage the young footballers in Agege and environs to keep themselves busy especially during their school holiday period.
He noted that talents are abound in Agege and it is duty of local government to empower the youth through sports so that they would not go into social vices that would ruin their future career.
“We want to use this tournament to encourage our youths to see this competition as part of acquisition skills and empowerment programme in Agege. We are doing this to engage the youths and give them a platform to showcase their talents to the world. There are many youth empowerment programmes lined for our youths and football is one of the programmes we witnessed today (Friday), “he said.
Obasa who supports Arsenal Football Club of England also tasked the participants to be disciplined and steer clear from trouble that might affect the image of the competition.
He however reminded other football stakeholders such as coaches, organisers, fans and journalists to be diligent and committed to the tournament saying that if all hands must be on deck, the tourney would record a huge success.
“Let me use this medium to urge the organising committee and other football stakeholders to be fair in discharging their duties and ensure that they instill discipline in the lives of these young players. They should be a role model to them and ensure that all the teams are treated equally throughout the competition, ” he said.
In his response,match coordinator, Ayo Filani said he was quite impressed with the standard of play by the participating teams and urged the other teams to follow suit.
Former Gateway FC coach however thanked the Agege council boss for his contributions to the football development in Agege and promised that the organising committee is committed to give their best and ensure that all the teams are treated equally throughout the tournament.
Meanwhile a total of 20 teams are registered in male category, while eight teams would involve in female category. Four matches would hold today at the Ideal Primary School.
