Defending champions, Seamoriow football feeders began their title defence with 4-1 resounding victory over VI.Foot Football Academy in the opening match of U-15 Seamoriow football championship which kicked off on Monday at the Seamoriow Sports Complex, Arrange Road, Ikotun, Lagos.
Both teams went into the game with high expectations but defending champions, Seamoriow opened the goal account through Divine Imoh in 16th minutes.
VI.foot who came to the tournament with determination raised the tempo of the game and they quickly got the equaliser when Aremu Ramon scored at the close range to restore the parity.
The 30 minutes encounter produced good display and tactical play by the both sides in the first half. It was not a pleasant outing for VI Foot in the second half as Seamoriow boys were on rampage in the pulsating tie watched by mammoth crowd.
Adebayo Zion got the second goal for Seamoriow in 43th minutes. Efforts by VI. Foot to equal the scoreline proved abortive as Kehinde Gbolahan scored brace to confirm supremacy over their opponents.
Reacting to the team victory, Seamoriow coach, Peter Mathew said the outcome of the match was a good one but described his team’s performance unimpressive.
“Honestly speaking I was not too satisfied with the performance of my boys especially in the first half.The boys were not at their best but I could see a little better performance in the second half.We can do better if we want to retain the title and anything short of good performance would be a huge disappointment to our fans and management staff in our next match,”he said.
In other results, Adwaaik FA lost 1-6 to Dazzle FA, Royalty Athletics suffered 2-3 to ADHOC FA and Shuffle Select defeated Pumah 3-2.
Commenting on the match, cup donor, Oluwaseyi Amos said the tournament has lived up to expectations in terms of organisation, officiating, spectators attendance and standard of play by the participants.
Amos advised the participants not to see the competition a do or die affairs and admonished them to shun violence during and after the match.
“I expect good match from all the teams. The teams that played today (Monday) did well and I must confess to you that I am impressed with what I saw today and I want the participating teams to be disciplined and give their best throughout the championship,” he said.
