It is no longer news that the inaugural edition of U-20 Health Champions Cup has come and gone but the successes and benefits of the competition had positive impact on the players and officials.
Although the one week competition which kicked off last month was put together by Green Sports Africa in partnership with Africa MasterCard Foundation.
A total of 32 teams took part in the competition which was witnessed by the representatives of Green Sports Africa, Mr Kassim Ismaily (Kenya) and George Oluwaodhis(Uganda) held at the Alade Sport center, Ipaja Command, Alimosho, Lagos.
A tournament cordinator, Babatunde Adeshina Oyebande told our correspondent over the weekend that the competition had lived up to expectations in terms of organisation and officiating noted that the players and officials benefited from the tourney.
“The U-20 Health Champions Cup had recorded huge successes because the organisation was superb and the officiating was quite impressive.
“Aside this, we were able to kit the teams from the round of 16 stage and ensure that all the participating coaches were given some amount of money for appearance fees,”he said.
Oyebande disclosed that talents were discovered during the competition, while finalists were given trophies and prize monies for the job well done.
He however revealed that the success of the competition in Nigeria informed the organisers to hold the same tourney in Ghana which recorded another success.
Oyebande who doubles as Leader of Ikeja Football Coaches Council explained that the Green Sports Africa is planning to take the tournament to Senegal and Tanzania before this year’s run out.
The purpose of the competition was to discourage the players from taking hard drugs and the resource persons highlighted the importance of good health on the players during the tournament.
Zion FC defeated Dia light FC 2-0 to emerge the champions in Nigeria.
