Sansan Boys Football Club are the first team that booked a place in the quarter final of the ongoing Football Fiesta Tournament taking place at the proposed palace playground Igando, Alimosho, Lagos.
Sansan Boys qualified after they played 1-1 with Sterling City Football Club in the return leg held on Monday afternoon.
The first leg ended 3-2 in favour of Sansan Boys and qualified 4-3 on aggregate.
The encounter started on a brighter note for Sansan Boys after scoring early goal through Chuks Ekwuosa before Farouk Usman got equaliser in the 35th minutes.
The homers, Sterling City FC came out in the second half in search for the equaliser but they were denied by Sansan Boys goalie who was impressive throughout the encounter.
Speaking after the match, Sansan Boys Coach, Tope Obayemi expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the match and congratulated his boys for qualifying to the next stage of the tournament.
While Sterling City Coach, Jerry Abraham Ezealuaka said his team would have won the match but blamed the refree for time deduction.
“It was a good match but I am not happy the way referee ended the game.We still have time to play suddenly the match ended when we still have some minutes to play.
“However, my boys did well unfortunately we did not make it to the quarter final stage,”he said.
Action resumes on Wednesday afternoon while Supreme FC face Rocky Stars by 1:30pm as Keep Fit tackle Bora FC by 3:30pm.
On Friday, IGFC would battle Bucknor FC by 2:15pm as Wolves FC take on Sunday Sunday Egan All Stars by 3:45pm.
Match coordinator, Habeeb Bello said he is quite impressive with the performance of the teams saying that they always abide by the rules and regulations guiding the tournament.
“Let me commend all the teams for the spirit of sportsmanship they exhibited since the tournament started.
“I must also commend them for following our rules and regulations. I implore them to continue in this way so that we can achieve our common goal at the end of the competition,”he said.
