Fans of Fidson Football Club of Sango-Otta were excited after their darling team walloped Cannaland Football Club 4-2 in the 2023 Fasanya Gold Cup Final.
The tension soaked match held over the weekend at the Joju football pitch, Sango-Otta, Ogun State.
The finalists entertained the spectators with the their football artistry as home team, Fidson scored three goals in the first half.
The second half was tough for the homers when Cannaland came out with full force and scored two quick goals to put their opponents under pressure.The two goals sent jittery to the Fidson and their fans.
While Cannaland were looking for equaliser, their opponents banked on counter attack and two goals were scored to confirm their supremacy over their opponents.
One of the fans of Fidson said the match was tough and entertaining and thanked God for the victory, while others said it was a hard fought victory for their team.
Speaking after the encounter, cup donor, Amos Fasanya expressed satisfaction with the organisation and quality of the two teams.He noted that the final was well organised and congratulated the winners for the job well done.
Chairman Organising Commiittee, Akinlawon Akinola thanked the cup donor for his finacial contribution to make the tournament a memorable one.
“I give God the glory for the success of this tournament.We started this competition late last year and all the teams had a good outings.
“My appreciation goes to our cup donor who used his resources to bankroll this tournament.Without him, we may not organise such a glamorous competition like this.Once again i thank him for empowering the youths through football competition,”he said.
Fidson who emerged as champions received the sum of N100,000 with a trophy, while Cannaland pocketed N60,000 as Adiyan that won the third position went home with the sum of N40,000.
Meanwhile, outstanding players were rewarded as Etti Kamaldeen of Adiyan won most valuable player, Tobi Areola of Cannaland emerged as higest goal scorer with four goals.
Saheed Ademola of Fidson won best goalkeeper of the tournament as Tiamiyu Adeyinka of Fidson won best coach of the tournament.
