Authorities in Ibadan, located in Oyo State of southwestern Nigeria, have been pursuing individuals suspected of engaging in same-sex romances.
The immoral activities of one Akinwole Oyeyemi John with his male partner were uncovered when they were caught at the Greenland Hotel & Suite, situated within Opeyemi Estate, near the new Gbagi Market in Ibadan.
Insiders at the hotel informed Khai Reports that on Saturday, February 7, 2026, Akinwole reserved a room for an overnight stay, but a member of the hotel staff later discovered that he was there to meet his partner.
Soji Oyeleke, the hotel manager, told Khai Reports that when Akinwole checked into the hotel, it became apparent that the companion accompanying him was, in fact, his lover.
“One of my receptionists informed me that they had inadvertently discovered our guest, Mr. Akinwole, having sexual relations with a male companion in the same room. I had to alert the authorities and promptly contacted the police, who quickly arrived on the scene.
“Unfortunately, we were unable to apprehend the couple. However, the police utilised the information filled out on the hotel registration form by Akinwole earlier on that Saturday,” the hotel manager explained.
Khai Reports learned from a police insider that law enforcement was able to locate Akinwole’s home at 1 Amazing Estate, Old Ife Road, Alakia in Ibadan using the address provided.
When the police arrived, they encountered his wife, who was astonished to find out that her husband had been involved in homosexual activities without her knowledge.
“Regrettably, we could not locate him. We later learned that he had fled following the revelation of his sexual activities,” the police source stated.
It should be noted that Nigeria enforces some of the most stringent anti-LGBTQ legislation on the African continent.
In 2014, former President Goodluck Jonathan enacted the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, which makes same-sex marriage, cohabitation, and any public expressions of same-sex relationships illegal, subjecting offenders to harsh legal repercussions.
