The Lagos State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) welcomed the decision of the Disciplinary Tribunal of Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) to free Tobi Amusan of Nigeria of the suspension slammed on her for missing three whereabouts tests within 12 months.
The AIU announced a temporary suspension for Amusan on July 19, which didn’t please the athlete who appealed the suspension.
“We can only be happy for one of us, Tobi Amusan, who has been acquitted of of the offence of missing anti-doping tests. We’re delighted that she actually passed the ‘test’,” said Olatutu Oladunni, the Executive Chairman of Lagos SWAN, who revealed in a statement over the weekend that the association sees the 26-year-old as a great ambassador for the country.
“She will continue to be a great ambassador for our vibrant youth, our rising stars and our dear country Nigeria,” said Oladunni.
The current 100m hurdles champion competes at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary where she is representing Nigeria.
