After their triumph as the champions at the Savannah Conference, Nigeria Customs Basketball Club believe it is time to aim for the ultimate prize of winning the Zenith Women Basketball League Super 8 Final.
The Super 8 Final, Independent News Express reports, will hold from 13-22 October 2024 at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.
Coach of the Border Girls, as the Nigeria Customs are fondly called, Mohammed Abbah, popularly known as ‘Jagu’, said his team are going to the Super 8 Finals with no pressure because eyes won’t be on his girls.
“We not under pressure going to the tournament,” said Coach Abbah. “We are going there to do our best and get the desired results. We will take every game as it comes,” he declared.
Abbah, however, said that the Bashir Adewale Adeniyi-led Customs management has been doing a lot to motivate the girls and the coaches, but like Oliver Twist, they are asking for more.
“The management of the team has supported us but we are still asking for more,” he said.
To one of the team’s star players, Akaraewe Iwe Nkem, “the Border Girls we are targeting to make it to the podium this time around, and of course, surpassing last year’s record.”
Nigeria Customs are joined by Titans, Royal Aces and Air Warriors for the Final 8 while from the Atlantic Conference, after topping the group, record winners of the league, First Bank Women Basketball team, are joined by defending champions of the league, MFM Women Basketball team alongside last year finalist, Bayelsa Whales and former winner of the league, Dolphins.
