The Executive Committee of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Lagos State chapter, has warned individuals allegedly parading themselves as leaders of the association to desist from such activities or face the full wrath of the law.
The warning followed a public notice issued by one Aaron Akerejola, who reportedly identified himself as the Acting Chairman of Lagos SWAN and called for a Congress to discuss issues concerning the affairs of the association.
However, the Lagos SWAN leadership has rejected the claim, insisting that there is no vacancy in the chairmanship position, which is currently occupied by Ambassador Olatutu Oladunni.
In a statement, Oladunni said Akerejola had no legal authority to act as chairman or convene a Congress on behalf of the association.
“There is no acting chairman in Lagos when there is a substantive chairman in the person of Ambassador Olatutu Oladunni. Akerejola has no legal authority to act as acting chairman, nor does he have the power to convene any Congress for Lagos SWAN. This action is illegal and will not be tolerated henceforth,” Oladunni said.
The chairman further accused Akerejola of extending his alleged activities to the association’s secretariat at the National Stadium, Surulere, where he was said to have harassed tenants while claiming ownership of the complex.
Oladunni said the association had notified security agencies in Lagos State about the alleged activities of Akerejola and his associates.
He assured members and stakeholders that the executive committee would take all necessary steps to protect the association’s interests and ensure the uninterrupted running of its affairs.
“We have informed all the security agencies in Lagos State about the illegal activities of Akerejola and his co-travellers. We will spare no effort in ensuring that any impostor bent on disrupting the peaceful running of the association is brought to book,” he said.
The Lagos SWAN leadership reiterated its commitment to maintaining order within the association and urged members and stakeholders to be wary of unauthorised notices and activities purportedly carried out in its name.
