Tobi Peters, a talent manager and a broadcaster with Television Continental news who is the brain behind Asisat Oshoala, the sixth time African women’s footballer of the year brand image.
Tobi has indeed worked with some notable soccer players in Nigeria. They included Rashidi Yekini, late Peter Rufai and Mutiu Adepoju.
Others are famous soccer agent, John Ola Shittu, the agent of former Super Eagles star, John Mikel Obi. Through Shittu, Tobi was able to work directly with famous Nigerian football stars such as John Mikel Obi, Obafemi Martins, Joseph yobo, Chinedu Ogbuke amongst others.
In 2016, Tobi decided to venture into talent management company, FCSM Global Service Nigeria, a renowned company set up to manage athlete brand and image visibility in Africa .
Tobi personally through his management company secured deals for former Super Falcons captain, Asisat Oshoala. The deals included Emzor Pharmaceutical, Coca Cola, DStv , Kwese TV, Payporte, Lagos State sports ambassadorial, United Bank for Africa (UBA), Amstel Malta and a host of others.
He was also the first to get five top players of the Nigeria’s senior women team, the Super Falcons their first ever television adverts ahead of the 2022 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia, with the likes of Onome Ebi, Tochukwu and other top Falcons players in the advert.
Helping to push and promote womens football
Tobi was also the brain behind the famous Asisat Oshoala Foundation, the let project of sixth times African women’s footballer of the year award winner, Asisat Oshoala in 2016 and the Asisat Oshoala Academy in 2023. He also pushed through the sponsorship deal which the world renowned sportswear manufacturing company, Nike had with both the foundation and the academy to help the girl-child in Africa achieved their dreams through education and sports.
Tobi says more Nigeria footballers need to work on their image branding.
“We all know womens football can’t be compare to men’s football but all I want is just to make the game more marketable at a level it will be at par with the men’s football. I am proud to say that Asisat Oshoala. I was able to give Oshoala a look that was attractive to the private sector. I can look back today and beat my chest that God has been so faithful in what I was able to achieve with Asisat Oshoala.
“I worked with a couple of Nigerian players such as Yobo, Martins and others.
In fact, I personally facilitated the deal of Obagoal to Levente to Spain, but again women’s football still needs a lot of publicity in Nigeria,” Tobi said.
The women’s Nations Cup kicks off this weekend in Morocco with no publicity from our media.
“It’s a case of those who are managing that aspect. If it was Wizkid that is performing in USA or London for example, you will see or notice the publicity everywhere but again the players themselves needs to work on themselves, in terms of what they post, what they say and try to promote that aspect for the betterment of the future generations to come.
In his quest to connect Nigerians to who is who in the society, Tobi personally took Asisat Oshoala to the President of Nigeria Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to have discussion about taking women’s football to the next level in the country.
Tobi is also the Manager of the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the Nigeria women’s league, Janet Seimenya who just moved to the Bayelsa Queens.
