Outdoor school trips also known as excursion has been one of the major conventional traditions the academic institutions have adopted which have been existing for almost a century.
Self confidence, human relations, willing to learn more, exposure, dynamism, versatility and ability to embrace other culture and others are some of the features deposited in this concept called excursion.

As part of the vision mandate to give the pupils an unlimited opportunity to dream big and also think broader outside the box, so as to enable them identify their level of capability, competency and capacity, especially when to choose their future career, the school has decided to extend the educational trips to the airport for the pupils to understand the technicality in the aviation industry which will in turn help them choose either of the segment they will prefer to operate when the time comes. This ranges from pilot, air hostess, cabin crew members, air traffic controllers, ticketing department which is under the commercial aspect of aviation, aeronautics, flight engineer, Air Commodore etc.
That will also enable them go more deep to see The Nigerian Airforce which has the most full and In-depth trainings on aircraft and its technical knowhow.
Some of the pupils of Interguide Academy boarded a stationed aircraft during their excursion to the Lagos Aiprort recently.
In their outdoor trip held recently in Lagos, the elementary school pupils of Interguide School Ikeja, had a first-hand experience of air travel when they visited the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja as part of their term-long theme on air transportation.
The field trip aimed to supplement the pupils’ classroom learning by exposing them to the practical aspects of air travel and some basic technicalities in aviation.
The pupils, in their colourful green shirt and the conventional school short and gowns for the male and female students respectively, were accompanied by the Principal Elementary School alongside the teachers.
They pupils arrived at the airport early in the morning and lined up at the terminal like regular passengers. They were taken through the security check, after which they walked through the terminal and boarded a stationed aircraft where they were shown the different parts and functions in the aircraft.

The pupils were amazed at the size and complexity of the aircraft.
It was no doubt that the pupils were indeed overwhelmed and they asked many questions about how it works and flies. They were shown the cockpit used by the pilots, as well as the passenger cabin and the amenities provided for comfort and convenience.
The pupils were also taught about the different types of aircraft, such as jets, helicopters, and cargo planes, and the various personnel who work inside the airplane, such as pilots, flight attendants, aeronautical engineers, and air traffic controllers.
This was an excellent opportunity for them to understand the roles of pilots, flight attendants, and ground crew members.
Finally, the pupils witnessed the landing and takeoff of airplanes on the runway, which thrilled them with the roar of engines and the sight of planes soaring into the sky. They were impressed by the skill and professionalism of the pilots and the ground crew, who work hard to ensure that air travel, is safe and reliable.
The pupils expressed their happiness and commended the management of the school for putting the them into special consideration by arranging for such amazing educational trips. They were excited and appreciated the opportunity given for the field trip
In their words: “We have learnt a lot and we are inspired to become pilots, flight attendants, or other aviation professionals in the future.”
The field trip was an excellent way for the pupils to learn and explore the world beyond their classroom.
It provided them with hands-on experience and a real-life view of some of the topics in transportation they learn about in school.
According to the Principal Elementary School, Mrs Kukoyi, she said that the school’s initiative to organize these trips every term is based on the theme for the term.
She noted further that such trips are necessary to develop well-rounded individuals who are not only book-smart but also exposed to the world around them.
She added that it was an exciting and educational experience for the pupils, as the school looks forward to more of such initiatives from the Interguide Academy in the future.
