Some African football legends have indicated their interest to feature in the inaugural edition of African Heroes Penalty Cup scheduled to hold in Lagos later in the year.
This was disclosed by sports consultant, Prince Dapo Ajibade at the unveiling of the African Heroes Penalty Cup held early on Wednesday in Lagos.
Addressing the Journalists, Ajibade said eight countries were selected to feature in the inaugural edition sheduled to hold in Onikan Stadium, Lagos.
According to him, the countries that would feature in the inaugural edition are Ghana, Cameroon, South Africa, Senegal,Cote D’Ivoire,Mali, Morocco and host, Nigeria.
Ajibade who double as Director of Abaj Multilinks Limited said three players would represent each country alongside with a goalkeeper.
“This is the first of its kind and the three legend players would represent each country and they would come along with the best goalkeeper in their various countries league. It is all about Penalty kicks and we want to see how good these legend players are good in penalty kicks,” he said.
Ajibade mentioned that legend players like Jay Jay Okocha, Daniel Amokachi,George Finidi, Patrick Mboma,Rigobert Song,John Mensah,Asamoah Gyan and Stephen Appaiah would be in action.
Others are El Hadji Diouf, Henri Camara, Khalilou Fadiga,Lucas Radebe, Mark Fish,Siphiwe Tshabalala,Seydou Keita, Salomon Kalou, Mustapha Hadji and Kolo Toure would also be on duty.
Ajibade said the objective of the competition is to bring together football legends and compete against one another using the ultimate tie-breaker in the game of football.
He also stated that the event would also create an extra exciting and entertaining platform from football noted that penalty kick is the most important in deciding the winners without much dependence.
In his own comment, the tournament facilitator, Austin Okocha said the tourrnament would showcase incredible skils, talents and athleticism of these legends, as they take to the field once again to compete at the highest level
According to Okocha,all the matches will be filled with drama, excitement and memories that will last a lifetime.
