NBC

Ahead of Nigeria’s Digital Switch Over (DSO) launch scheduled for 17th June 2026, key technical personnel in the nation’s broadcasting industry embarked on a facility tour of the DSO infrastructure at NIGCOMSAT’s DTH Centre, Abuja to assess readiness and strengthen collaboration toward the nationwide transition to digital broadcasting.

The visit brought together Heads of Technical Departments from agencies under the Ministry of Information and National Orientation, Heads of Engineering from broadcast stations representing the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON), as well as other technical partners.

The tour took stakeholders through the satellite uplink and downlink systems, monitoring stations, and the central control facility. Discussions focused on operational readiness of satellite transmission systems, signal distribution networks, and support infrastructure powering the FreeTV platform.

NIGCOMSAT emphasized that the inspection was an opportunity to showcase progress and to receive feedback from technical experts on areas needing improvement ahead of the June launch. Participants highlighted the importance of the facility’s technical capacity and resilience in ensuring a smooth rollout, particularly across underserved and rural communities.

This visit reinforces the collective commitment to driving the successful implementation of Nigeria’s Digital Switch Over programme, expanding digital content distribution, and enhancing public access to quality broadcasting.
