Nigeria Ex Internationals Cup: Akanni Reacts After Team’s Defeat In Return Leg

One of the ex Internationals whose team are taking part in the ongoing Nigeria Ex Internationals Cup taking place in Lagos, Waheed Akanni has reacted to his team’s defeat in the return leg of the tourney.

FC Akanni lost 2-0 to FC Friday Ekpo football team on Thursday afternoon at the Maracana Stadium, Ajegunle, Lagos.

Although FC Akanni won the first leg in their home 3-2 but failed to progress as their opponents won 4-3 on aggregate.

Speaking after the encounter, Akanni commended his boys for their performance and noted that his boys lost some scoring chances which cost them defeat.

“It was not a bad game for us. My boys gave their best unfortunately we could not take our chances. Both teams played better but like I said, we failed to take our chances which cost our ouster. I congraulate our opponents for the hard fought victory and wish them well in their next match,”he said.

In his own reaction, Friday Ekpo who is in charge of his team thanked his players for playing to instructions and boasted that the victory was well deserved.

“Our game plan works for us and i commend other backroom staff for the job well done. The players really showed serious commitment and i commend them for their fighting spirit exhibited throughout the encounter,” he said.

In other centre, FC Agbai walloped FC Temile to book a place in the round of 16.
