Head Coach of newly promoted NPFL,Inter Lagos,Sakiru Giwa has expressed his disappointment following his team elimination in the ongoing Lagos State Challenge Cup known as Lagos FA Cup.
Defending champions,Inter Lagos suffered 1-0 defeat in the hands of G12 FC in the round of 16 held on Tuesday morning at the Inspire Stadium, Oshodi.
A 52th minutes goal from Babatunde Micheal was G12 FC needed to send their fans into wild jubilation in the encounter watched by some board members of Lagos FA.
The pulsating tie ended barren draw after both teams missed some scoring chances in the first half.
Although G12 who were determined in the encounter got their winning goal after Babatunde got a through pass and superbly converted it to earn quarter final ticket to his team.
Giwa while reacting to the defeat said it was a sad day for his team who just got a promotion from NNL to NPFL and wished his opponents all the best in their next match.
“It was a disappoting outing for us and I take the responsibility as a coach.My boys did not play to my expectations and they were heavy on the ball which cost our defeat,”he said.
Giwa disclosed that he got the information concerning their next match late on Monday evening saying that his preparations towards the match was not solid as he expected .
“Had been I knew that our match would hold on Tuesday morning we may not train on Monday evening and even if we train,it might not be heavy training and as you could see that my players were heavy and appeared tired during the encounter,”he said.
G12 Coach,Olutayo Olusoji boasted that his team deserved the victory and commended his boys for playing to instructions.
