Founder of the Young Strikers Football Club of Lagos Island, Waheed Kosoko on Thursday marked the 38th years anniversary of the club as old and new players played reunion match at the Campos Sport Center,Lagos Island.
Young Striker’s are one of the oldest clubs on Lagos Island.friends,relations well- wishers and other football stakeholders were in attendance to witness the anniversary in spite of the heavydown pour.
Speaking with our correspondent, Waheed Kosoko said the anniversary was celebration of the players who are alive and those who have passed away.
He described the football match between old and new players as a reunion and thanked the old players for honouring their invitation.
“Today(Thursday) Marks the 38th years of the club existence and I thank God for the players who are still with us and those who played in this club during their active days. We are using this anniversary also to remember our past heroes.I mean those have passed away.
“This football match is just like a reunion for the new and old players and I am very grateful for the old players that honoured our invitation and I thank our invited guests, friends and well-wishers who honoured our invitation.
“I believe that the club would be waxing stronger despite our challenges and I also appreciate our supporters who have been with us for many years,”he said.
In his own comment, Special Adviser on general purpose to Lagos Island East Council Boss, Funsho Opaleye commended th founder of the club for his commitment and dedication to grassroots football in the last 38th years on Lagos Island and promised that the council would give the club every necessary support to achieve its targets.
“I was once a player for the club.This means I am still part of the club.I know the club challenges and I promise that soonest, the Lagos Island East LCDA would start supporting the club again with their own little way.We have done it before and we want to restart again,”he said.
Young Striker’s coach, Ariyo Babatunde said the celebration was necessary to celebrate the players and those who have passed away
He however urged the sport philanthropists and council to give them necessary support to move the club forward.
While some players who spoke to our correspondent expressed gratitude to God for the club anniversary and called on sons and daughters of entire Lagos Island to throw their supports to the club in their future engagements.
