The journey to crown Nigeria’s next superstar hit a thrilling high last night, as contestants lit up the live show with powerful renditions of iconic Nigerian songs, celebrating the heart and soul of Afrobeats. Hosted by the ever-charismatic IK Osakioduwa, the night was filled with heartfelt performances and vibrant celebrations of homegrown talent.

Before the performances, IK welcomed the judging panel for the night, returning favorites Ric Hassani and Iyanya, alongside special guest judge and powerhouse vocalist Waje. He also teased a culinary treat from special guest Dr. Robert, a professional chef who added a delicious twist to the evening.

But first, the show took a serious turn as IK announced that not one, but two contestants would be leaving the competition.

The first contestant to be evicted was Ellacentric. Despite the heartbreak, she remained positive and reflective, saying, “I’ve applied for three years, and I’m happy I made it to the Top 10.”

Shortly after, IK stunned the audience with Jkenova’s elimination. A fan favorite known for his emotional delivery, he shared, “It’s been amazing so far. I had to pause law school for this show, just to show the world my talent.”

With two emotional goodbyes, IK praised the resilience of the Top 7 and urged them to keep giving their best as the competition tightens. With emotions running high, the live show shifted focus to celebrating Nigerian music, and the Top 7 delivered unforgettable performances.

Here’s a recap of how the Top 7 performed:

Purp – “Be My Man” by Asa

Purp opened the night with grace, performing a soulful rendition of Asa’s “Be My Man” that had the crowd cheering. Her control, phrasing, and presence evoked memories of Asa herself while adding her own flair. The crowd erupted in applause. Iyanya didn’t hold back: “You owned the song. You made it yours.”

Lawrence – “Like I Do” by Fireboy DML

Lawrence gave a heartfelt performance that tugged at heartstrings. His smooth vocals and natural emotional delivery created an atmosphere of vulnerability that instantly connected with the audience. Ric commended him: “You showed emotion, passion,” while Waje added with warmth, “You’re a passionate singer.”

Brammy – “For My Hand” by Burna Boy

Brammy—fondly called “Brammy for the Grammy”—brought charisma and energy to the stage, fully engaging the audience. With effortless confidence and sharp stage presence, he danced, engaged with the crowd, and gave a vocal performance that was both technically sound and emotionally rich. His runs were clean, his timing precise. Waje added, “Every note was believable.”

Boss Lady – “Nothing Dey Spoil for God Hand” by Timi Dakolo

Delivering a powerful and inspirational performance, Boss Lady sang with conviction. Her voice soared with hope and determination as she layered rich emotion into every line. You could feel her personal connection to the lyrics.

Raymu – “Ololufe” by Wande Coal

Raymu’s emotional delivery earned admiration from all. His control of dynamics made the performance feel like a personal serenade, as if he were singing directly to someone he loved. His connection to the lyrics was tangible, and he ended his performance by giving a rose to one of the audience members.

Mikki – “Omemma” by Judikay

Mikki got the entire room on its feet, including the judges, with his energetic and spirit-filled performance. His voice filled the room with joy and praise, and by the end, the judges were out of their seats. Ric, caught in the emotion of the moment, exclaimed, “You took us out of this show!” It was a high point of the night, both spiritually and vocally.

Khristopher – “Lady” by Fela Kuti

Khristopher closed the night with a bold and funky tribute to the Afrobeat legend. His confidence, movement, and vocal style made the performance feel like a true homage to Fela while still making it his own.

As the show wrapped, IK gave a shoutout to Dr. Robert for providing the evening’s culinary delights and acknowledged the incredible band, crowd, and judges who brought the night to life. The judges gave their final words by urging viewers at home to vote for their favorites and appreciate the work the contestants have put in. With voting lines open until Thursday, the fate of each contestant now lies in the hands of the fans.

To keep your favorite contestant in the competition, register to vote on the Africa Magic website or via the MyDStv or MyGOtv apps from Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
