More than 2,000 school children across Gombe State were excited to witness the official opening ceremony of Gombe Inter Schools Athletics and Principal Cup football competition which commenced early this morning at the Pantami Township Stadium, Gombe State.
The students who represent various schools showed excitement at the opening ceremony as many of them who had not visited stadium in their lives put smiling faces during the match pass.
More than 25 both public and private schools participated in the match pass that lasted for almost an hour.
Government Senior Secondary Schools Bolari East won the match pass race with the sum of N100,000 cash handed over to the school game master as job well done.
Aside the students in attendance, state commissioner of Education,Dr Aishatu Umar Maigari led the other dignitaries to do the official kick off of the Gombe State Principal Cup.
The opening football match is between Government Day Junior Secondary School and Savannah Group of School.
As at filing this report the match was in progress as the stadium filled to capacity.
Some dignitaries who came from other various states were also in attendance to witness the glamorous and colourful opening ceremony.
Other events would hold later today in the track and field heat such as 400m, Javelin and high jump in both boys and girls category.
Director of the competition,Hon Ahmed Gara Gombe expressed heartfelt gratitude to God for the success of official opening ceremony and urged the participants to see this Athletics championship and principal cup as a platform to showcase their talents to the world.
He also thanked the media for their unwavering support given the tourneys before and during saying that without media coverage the event might not record a huge success in day one of the tournament.
