The International Council of Nurses (ICN) reaffirms its unwavering commitment to providing humanitarian support for nurses worldwide, emphasizing this as a fundamental pillar of its mission. In its latest update on the Humanitarian Fund and the #NursesforPeace campaign, ICN underscores the critical importance of extending assistance to nurses working under dire and often perilous circumstances.
Addressing recent events and sharing reflections ahead of her New Year message, ICN President Dr. Pamela Cipriano highlighted the ongoing suffering endured by ordinary people caught in conflicts beyond their control, including the recent devastation in Syria.
Dr. Cipriano stated: “This year has witnessed the spread of conflict and disaster on a global scale, placing nurses at the forefront of multiple crises—on their doorsteps and in regions afflicted by violence and instability.
The ICN has risen to the calls for support and solidarity, embedding humanitarian response as a central tenet of our mission. This critical work has been made possible only through the extraordinary generosity of individual nurses, members of the public, and our member National Nurses Associations worldwide.
Since the advent of modern nursing, nurses have stood resolute in the face of wars, conflicts, and humanitarian disasters, bringing care and solace to those in need. Sadly, this role is more urgent than ever today.
As we reflect on the year past and look toward the future, I urge all of you to stand with us in this vital mission. By donating to our #NursesforPeace campaign through the ICN website, you can help us support, protect, and care for the nurses who selflessly serve others in the most challenging circumstances.
This is a time to recommit ourselves to the ideals of peace on Earth. Together, we can make a profound difference in the lives of nurses and the communities they serve.”
The International Council of Nurses calls upon the global community to unite in solidarity and action, ensuring that nurses continue to serve as beacons of hope in the face of adversity.
