As the 2023 Lagos State Secondary Schools Handball Championship tagged “Opeifa Cup” enters Day 2 on Tuesday, 32 teams, both male and female, from the six educational districts are jostling for hoour.

In the Male Category, Herbert Macaulay Junior Secondary School boys were the best in their tie against Bariga Junior High School by winning 5-2. Aje Junior school won Dolphin Junior School 3-1 while St.Lukes Junior Schools won 1-0 in a tight contest with Lafiaji Junior School.
Ruthina Junior School thumped Cardoso Junior High School 4-0 to qualify for the next phase of the championship.




In the female category, Herbert Macaulay Junior Secondary School walloped Eko-Akete Junior School 5-2, as Government Junior College meeting with Aje Junior High ended in stalemate. United Christian Junior School overpowered Ikeja Junior School in contest that ended 3-1, while King Ado Junior School saw off Dolphin Junior School to 1-0.
Captain of Herbert Macaulay Junior Secondary School, Sunday Agbofu reiterated that his side would not relent in their winning spree as they moved to the next round of the tournament.



“I enjoyed the game so much because the first time we played, we did not score the way we scored now,” he said..
An elated JSS 3 pupil disclosed that teamwork and the spirit of winning their match one after the other were the morale booster for their cruise to the next phase.


The grassroots development programme was designed to reduce juvenile delinquency and focus on discovering hidden talents for more propagation of the sport across the nooks and crannies of Lagos state.
