The Ghanaian Baseball5 youth team defeated Benin Republic 2-0 on Sunday to book a spot in the final of the ongoing Western Regional Youth baseball5 championship took place at the NIS Sports Complex Gymnasium, National Stadium Surulere, Lagos.
The first set of the game which started at exactly 10:00 WAT and ended at 10:30 WAT saw the Ghanaians make 15 runs to defeat Benin Republic who had 5 runs in that set.
In the second set which started at exactly 10:40 WAT, Benin Republic came out tougher, but their approach only reduced the high number of runs which the Ghanaians would have recorded. The game which ended at exactly 11:10 also saw the Ghanaians triumph as they established their authority in the game over Benin Republic.
In the second group game Tunisia lashed Nigeria 2-0 in the final game of the fixtures with an outstanding performance in the two sets of games played to book a final spot with Ghana, leaving the hosts grasping for breath and subjecting them to a third-place play-off.
The first set which started by11:46 WAT was an opportunity for Tunisia to finish up their excellent run in the group fixtures as they pounded the hosts, by making 11 runs and leaving Nigeria to score no single runs. The first set ended by 12:20 WAT.
In the second set which started at exactly 12:30 WAT, only the runs made by the North Africans in the first set were reduced. Their consistency in the game was excellent and they have so far recorded 100% wins to book a spot in the final with Ghana. The second set ended with 8 runs made by Tunisia while Nigeria had none and it ended at exactly 12:49.
While Nigeria and Benin Republic will meet in the third-place, Tunisia and Ghana will clash again in the final later today with both sides already securing a spot to the African continental championship.
