Deputy Governor of Edo State, Phillip Shaibu paid a visit to former Technical Adviser of Bendel insurance, Alabi Isien, at his residence in Benin City.
The deputy governor made this known on his official Facebook page where he said: “I paid a surprise visit to veteran footballer, seasoned coach and former Bendel Insurance FC Technical Adviser, Pa Alabi Aisien, at his private residence in Benin City.
“I recall my first meeting with him, it was when l was given the assignment to take charge of sports and drive the transformation of the sector, particularly repositioning our darling football clubs, Bendel Insurance and Edo Queens, respectively.
“Knowing that for the first time in the history of Nigerian football, a club ran an unbeatable season in the Nigeria Premier League. That was only possible with Bendel Insurance of Benin.
“Edo Queens is also one of the strongest teams in the Nigerian Women’s Football League. This was made possible because we had legends like Pa Alabi who were there for consultations.
“This is also a message to our teeming youth population to always tap from the experiences of our Elders. For our living legends like Pa Alabi who fought to put Nigeria on the World map, through football, they deserve our applause and celebration while they are still alive.”
