Don’t Buy Pre-Registered SIM Cards, NCC Warns Nigerians

2024 World Consumer Rights Day

The country’s telecommunication regulatory body, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has warned telecoms subscribers not to buy pre-registered SIM cards,as these could land them in unwarranted troubles.

The NCC gave this hints in one of its consumer advocacy posts on its Official Facebook page early on Thursday.

According to the NCC, buying pre-registered SIM cards is dangerous and criminal as it could lead the buyers to imprisonment.

“Pre-registered SIM can implicate the buyers in identity theft, financial fraud, kidnapping and armed robbery,” the NCC says.

The NCC also warned that pre-registered SIMs will make it difficult for the law enforcement agencies to track the real criminals using such telephones in the country, while collation of consumer information through pre-registered SIM cards will not be reliable.
