*Former NBC Director-General describes appointment as well-deserved, urges new aide to prioritise talent discovery and sports development

Former Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Dr Nasir Danladi Bako, has congratulated Frank Areguame Ilaboya on his appointment as Special Adviser on Grassroots Sports Mobilisation by Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo.

Bako, who conveyed the congratulatory message on behalf of sports-loving Nigerians, veteran sports administrators and sports writers, described Ilaboya’s appointment as well-deserved, citing his years of service to sports journalism and football administration.

Ilaboya, a former Chairman of the Edo State Football Association, brings considerable experience in sports reporting and football administration to his new assignment, according to Bako.

He said Ilaboya’s professional journey, marked by dedication, resilience and a determination to achieve results, had prepared him for the responsibilities of the position.

Bako expressed confidence that the new Special Adviser would deploy his experience and understanding of the sporting sector to strengthen grassroots sports development in Edo State.

He, however, urged Ilaboya to recognise that effective grassroots sports mobilisation required more than passion, stressing the importance of strategic planning, talent discovery and sustained investment in young athletes.

“Grassroots sports mobilisation requires a clear vision, strategic planning and a sustained commitment to identifying, nurturing and developing young talents, particularly at the community level,” Bako said.

He further charged Ilaboya to strengthen grassroots sports structures and create opportunities for emerging athletes to progress from community competitions to national and international platforms.

The former NBC Director-General also urged the new appointee to collaborate with sports administrators and other stakeholders to advance the Edo State Government’s sports development objectives.

Bako prayed for divine guidance, wisdom and success for Ilaboya, expressing hope that his appointment would contribute meaningfully to the growth of sports in Edo State and Nigeria.

Ilaboya’s appointment comes with expectations that his experience in sports journalism and football administration will contribute to the discovery and development of grassroots talent in the state.
