This is not the best of time for Atico Football Academy from Ibadan after they lost 4-3 on penalty shootout against AFA Academy of Lagos in the U-15 Juwase Cup final held recently in Lagos.
The pulsating tie which held recently in Lagos saw the two teams played 2-2 at the regulation time before went into penalty shootout.
The three days tournament which involved four academies from Lagos and Oyo states was being sponsored by Mrs Jumoke Wale -Sebiomo.
Speaking with Journalists after the encounter, Atico coach,Oyedeji Ayodeji said both teams played well but noted that penalty shootout is a game of luck.
“I don’t want to blame my players for allowing their opponents to cancel two goals deficit before the full time.It is part of the game but it was unfortunate we lost the final through penalties,”he said.
AFA academy coach, Atobatele Olaniran commended his players for their brilliant performance saying that the best team won the game.
Meanwhile the cup donor,Mrs Wale-sebiomo ably represented by her husband expressed delight with the team’s performance.
He added that both teams really lived up to expectations and congratulated the winners for the job well done.
In his own comment, chairman Organising Committee, Prince Wale Atiba said the competition was put together to keep the young lads busy during their holiday.
He said all the teams have done well and congratulated AFA team for winning the maiden edition of the tournament.
Cash prizes, medals and gift items were given to the teams and players who have distinguished themselves throughout the tournament.
In the third place match played earlier , Atico academy of Omole defeated Ikosi football club 3-0 to occupy third position in the tournament.
