The Nigeria Customs Service men basketball team made podium finish at the just concluded second edition of the Armed Forces Police and Paramilitary Basketball Championship held at the Indoor Hall of the MKO Abiola international stadium, Abuja.
The Border Men defeated the Federal Fire Service by 92-61 points with Lucky Aliyu joining the bronze medal side on the last day of the championship.
Customs dominated the Firemen from jump-ball to the buzzer.
Customs play caller Mohammed Abba praised the players who mostly veterans for showing up in the Service debut in the championship.
Coach Abba, who was a former player applauded the Comptroller General (CG) Bashir Adewale Adeniyi for his mission to revive Sport in the Service.
“I am pleased with the positive attitude of the players for the championship and other behalf I want to thank our CG for his immense support for sports in the Nigeria Customs”, says Coach Mohammed Abba.
Sam Onikeku, the Service Sports Secretary and member of the Athletic Federation of Nigeria told our correspondent of his vision for sports in the Nigeria Customs.
“I am very sure the CG will do needful when there is opportunity to recruit into the service because Customs is a well structured organization and our CG being a sport man himself will not leave the sector our during recruitment of personnel,” Onikelu said.
