The success story of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon in the last eight years has been a source of inspiration and encouragement to sponsors of the World Athletics-sanctioned event in Nigeria.

Nilayo Sports Management Company is headed by Bukola Olopade, a Lagos-based sports marketing company which is the brain behind major marathon races organised across the country.
The one day Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, which started from a humble begin eight years ago, rapidly climbed the ladder from just being a marathon event, got a bronze label status within three of existence, graduated to a silver label event and this year, held the first race after it got a gold label status.
