The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and Cameroon’s Telecommunications Regulatory Board (ART) have enhanced their joint efforts in the telecom sector through a fresh regulatory alliance aimed at advancing service quality and improving monitoring strategies in both nations.
This partnership is anticipated to grant the Cameroonian telecom authority a chance to examine the operational framework and regulatory methods employed by the NCC, aligning with broader initiatives to update its telecommunication landscape and enhance user satisfaction.
The alliance was officially established during a benchmarking tour by ART representatives at the NCC main office in Abuja. The Cameroonian delegation was led by Philemon Zoo Zame, the Director-General of ART, while the NCC team was led by Dr. Aminu Maida, the Commission’s Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
Experts in the telecommunications field have remarked that this initiative marks a significant advance toward bolstering regional collaboration among African telecom regulators, aiming at enhancing regulatory effectiveness, fostering innovation, and raising service quality.
A significant result of the visit was the establishment of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two organizations, an accord expected to broaden technical collaboration and facilitate knowledge exchange between Nigeria and Cameroon.
Through this agreement, Cameroon’s ART will utilize the NCC’s regulatory expertise in vital domains such as quality of service assessment, mobile number porting, consumer protection systems, and governance of passive infrastructure.
Industry participants emphasized that this partnership further highlights the NCC’s increasing role as a prominent telecommunications regulatory agency in Africa, particularly regarding the promotion of best practices and regulatory improvements throughout the continent.
This collaboration is also anticipated to foster greater consumer trust, enhance telecom services, and promote deeper regional unification within Africa’s swiftly evolving digital economy.
