Igando Football Club (IGFC) on Friday scored two goals at the added time to keep their round of 16 qualification alive after defeating Great Feet FC in the the ongoing Football Fiesta Cup.
The competition is designed in home and away format and the winners in the two legged match would go through to the round of 16.
Igando FC popularly known as IGFC paraded young players who showed determination and fighting spirit throughout the encounter.
Both teams gave a good account of themselves as scoring chances were created and missed in the tension soaked match played at the Sansan playground,Igando,Alimosho,Lagos.
John Ovie header from free kick was superbly converted in the added time to send IGFC fans into wild jubilation.
While Great Feet boys were searching for equaliser,Taiwo Akindele got a clear cut chance and converted it to brighten IGFC chances of reaching the next stage of the tournament.
Great Feet need to cancel two goal deficit in the return leg to stand the chance of reaching the round of 16,while Igando boys need at least a draw to keep their hopes alive.
Speaking after the match,IGFC coach,Mohammed Aberejo expressed his satisfaction saying that his boys played well and deserved the hard fought victory.
“It was a tough match for us and my boys did a good job especially in the second half.Our victory today was well deserved and I am looking forward to the return leg which might be tougher for both teams,”he said.
In the second match,Balo FC pip LJK 1-0.Action resumes on Sunday afternoon when Quality All Stars face Unity FA by 2pm as Sterling City FC clash with Bucknor FC by 4pm.
The return leg matches would commence on Monday to determine teams that would progress to the next round.
