The National Chairman of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC) Rev. (Amb) Samuel Ikpea has congratulated the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over the appointment of Eric Chelle as new Super Eagles Coach.
The NFF executive on Tuesday announced the appointment of the French man who led Mali to the quarterfinal of the AFCON where they lost to Ivory Coast after penalties and Ikpea expresses his reaction on it.
“This appointment is coming at the nick of time and I congratulate the NFF for making this decision” Ikpea started.
“Chelle will have to focus on the task of securing a World Cup ticket despite Nigeria having three points from four matches and trailing South Africa, Rwanda and Benin in Group C” Ikpea further added.
“He should concentrate on this task and ensure that the Super Eagles qualify, that’s our hope, prayers and area of interest ” Ikpea added.
The NFSC boss who had always expressed optimism on Super Eagles qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup noted that this is not the first time a French Coach would qualify Nigeria to the World Cup.
“Chelle is not the first Frenchman to find himself in this position”. “In 1998 when we made our second appearance at the world Cup, it was Frenchman Philippe Troussier who qualified Nigeria to France 1998 World Cup, so we are optimistic and confident that the former Malian manager would deliver”
“We at the Nigeria Football Supporters Club will give all our support to the new gaffer, and we are hoping that he would deliver” he concluded.
The Super Eagles will continue their World Cup qualifier in March and will be expected to win their remaining matches to pick up the world Cup ticket.
