Four schools within Ikoyi- Obalende Local Government of Lagos State have qualified for the finals of the ongoing IKOBA School Games which kicked off two weeks ago at the Wahab Folawiyo High School football playground, Ikoyi,Lagos.
A total of 13 schools in both male and female registered for the annual tournament.It was a busy period for schools around Ikoyi- Obalende axis as registered schools played one another before the finalists emerged in both categories.
In the semi final matches played recently in girl’s category, Wahab Folawiyo High School defeated Government Girls College, Maroko 1-0, while Davidhall International College humbled Government Girls College,Ikoyi 4-0 to reach the final stage.
In the boys category, Government Senior Secondary School College, Victoria Island defeated Akande Dahunsi Senior High School 1-0, while Government College, Ikoyi suffered 0-5 to Davidhall International College in the second semi final.
The convener of the IKOBA School Games, Olayinka Shokoya said the inter schools football tournament was organised to prepare the schools within Ikoyi-Obalende axis for next year’s Lagos Principal Cup and other school football tournaments.
He described this year’s edition well orgainsed and congratulated the finalists for the job well done.
“Despite the short notice, the participating schools showed their readiness for IKOBA School Games and i must commend the principals and game masters for releasing their students to participate in the competition.
“We are looking forward to the final on Wednesday and I believe that the best schools would emerge as champions,”he said.
