The highly anticipated 2024 Nigeria Rugby League season of southern conference kicks off Saturday morning at the CMS Grammar School, Bariga, Lagos.
Isah Lawal-Saulawa, General Manager of Nigeria Rugby League said he is optimistic about the upcoming season stated that the league would be kneely contested among the five participating teams.
“This year’s season will feature intense contests in both conferences,” said Lawal-Saulawa.
“The Southern Conference begins today with over five teams participating. Each team will compete in the men’s, women’s, and Under-19 categories, underscoring our dedication to inclusive growth and the development of rugby at all levels,”he said.
Lawal-Saulawa emphasized that the 2024 season holds significant promise for players, sponsors, and fans.
” We are committed to delivering exciting and competitive rugby experiences across both regions. The inclusion of men’s, women’s, and Under-19 teams greatly enhances our efforts to develop the sport throughout Nigeria. This integrated approach will pave the way for university and school leagues, which are vital to our grassroots development strategy.
“This season is crucial for identifying local talent for the NRLA’s international fixtures in 2024. We look forward to showcasing our players’ skills and dedication on both national and international stages. We also call upon potential sponsors to support our league and the women’s World Cup qualifier games against Kenya in September.

In his own comment national team female coach,Samson Okeowo underscored the importance of consistency in achieving top performance.

The Nigeria Rugby League’s consistent success since 2018 has positively impacted players, making them some of the best in Africa and abroad. This commitment continues with the 2024 season, featuring both Northern and Southern Conference leagues.
