Young Boys D Football Academy over the weekend proved the bookmakers wrong following their 2-1 victory over their opponents in the final of Agege Football Coaches Council Cup.
Young Boys D defeated cup favourite, Agege United 2-1 to emerge as the champions of the tournament.
The final ceremony which took place at Oniwaya High School, Agege, Lagos was organised by Agege Football Coaches Council.
Speaking after the match, Young Boys D coach, Oba Bamidele said their victory was collective effort and commended his boys for their doggedness throughout the game.
“Let me say our victory is collective.The players and coaching crew are in the same page which earned us a victory.Before the tournament kicked off, nobody gave us the chance but today we proved our critics wrong by beating our opponents.I thank God for this victory and and it was well deserved,”he said .
Abass Temidayo netted the the winning goal in the 80th minutes after the encounter was one goal apiece.Fawaz Alao first opened the goal for Young Boys D before it was quickly cancelled by their opponents.
Leader of Agege Football Coaches Council who doubles as Chairman organising commiittee, Ajayi Olumide expressed gratitude to God for the success of the tournament and tanked the invited guests, coaches and other council football leaders who took their time to grace the occasion.
He described this year’s edition a huge success and noted that despite some challenges facing the tournament, the organisers were able to organise a successful and a memorable final.
“I am happy that the competition ended well.I will not forget to thank members of Agege Football Coaches Council for their unrelenting efforts to make this year’s edition a memorable one.
“Also i thank executive members of Lagos State Football Coaches Association and Leader of Alimosho Football Coaches Council and his members, other invited coaches and other football stakeholders for honouring our invitations to witness this final.Thanks for your coming and we appreciate your contributions and supports throughout the tournament,”he said.
