Our Plan For Young Lagos Boxers After Asaba 2023 NYG – Coach

One of the coaches of Lagos boxers at the 7th National Youth Games, Coach Sola Omotade has been talking of the immediate plan for the young boxers after the Asaba 2023 competition.

The boxers, Mayowa Ayomide and Bolarinwa Michael won silver medals in the 44kg and 46kg in the female and male bouts respectively in the boxing events that were concluded on Friday at Chaminade Hall, St Patrick College, Asaba, Delta State.

The coach disclosed that going by the standard set by the Lagos State Sports Commission, the boxers would be further groomed and by this, the plan is to let the boxers take some weeks rest after the Games, thereafter they will be introduced to the Boxing Hall of Fame, a monthly boxing championship in Lagos where they will be training with their seniors.

The coach revealed that he was proud of the performance of the two medal winners and all other pugilists who represented Team Lagos in the boxing events of the games.

According to him, age is still on the side of the boxers, hence the need to expose them to coordinated training henceforth.

Fighting against Edo State’s Ameerat Abike Abubakar, Mayowa was defeated in the final of the female 44kg final. She settled for silver medal, while Bolarinwa narrowly missed the gold medal in his 46kg fight against Habeeblah Jamaldeen from Edo State
