32 Teams Battle For Taiwo Afolabi Cup In Southwest

A total of 32 teams from the southwest states in Nigeria will slug it out in the forthcoming 9th edition of U-17 Boys & Girls Taiwo Afolabi Football competition.

The much anticipated competition is organised by Lagos State Grassroots Soccer Association to commemorate cup donor, Chief Taiwo Afolabi whose birthday party holds on 29, April.

The opening match would be played between Sirdona FC of Ifo and Dragon FC, Ijebu-Igbo on 1, February,2025 at the Ijebu-Ode International Stadium,Ogun State.

Match coordinator, Taofeek Ajibola disclosed that eight teams are expected to qualify from the Southwest zone to join teams in Lagos state for the round of 24.

“We are ready to commence the preliminary stage of Afolabi Cup in Ijebu-Ode.Only the teams that qualify in the Southwest would come to Lagos for round of 24.We are set and I wish all the teams best of luck in their outings,”he said.

Ajibola, however, thanked cup donor, Barrister Afolabi who is also the CEO of SIFAX Group for his contribution in the football development in the Southwest states and wished him happy birthday in advance and many years in return.

The final would hold on 4 May at the Albati Barrack, Surulere, Lagos.
