The head coach of Super Eagles, Jose Paseiro was under fire after the senior national team failed to secure a home win in Uyo Township Stadium ,Akwa Ibom in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Lesotho.
Super Eagles came from behind to play 1-1 with Lesotho this evening in the encounter watched by thousands of Nigerian football fans.
Some fans, who reacted on social media lambasted Paseiro for the team’s poor performance, saying that he lacked what it takes to qualify the Eagles for the World Cup.
Tijani Muritala described Paseiro as an average coach who cannot win lowly rated Lesotho in Uyo.
Akeem Busari, a Lagos- based journalist expressed disappointment with the performance of the Eagles, saying that Paseiro has nothing to offer Nigeria.
“I have watched the highlights of the Nigeria vs Lesotho game. Let’s not be deceived by statistics, pedigree and hypes surrounding our so-called super stars. This team, with Jose Peseiro can’t take us to the World Cup,” he said.
Another senior sports journalist, Uzor Odigbo is of the opinion that bench warmers in clubs abroad are better than most of the players the coach played against Lesotho.
While some fans in their comments on social media were disappointed with the general performance of the senior players. They added that if they (the Eagles) continue this way, Nigeria should forget the next World Cup.
Meanwhile, Semilogo Ajayi quickly cancelled goal deficit for Nigeria in the 67th minutes after Lesotho player, Mkwanazi Motlomelo opened the goal scoring in the 56th minutes
The Super Eagles of Nigeria drop points against the team ranked 153rd in the world in the opening match of their FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
The Super Eagles will play their next qualifying game against Zimbabwe🇿🇼 on Sunday 19th of November at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali, Rwanda by 2pm (Nig Time)
