*Association Rolls Out 2025 Programmes
The Lagos State Athletics Association has awarded the winners of the maiden edition of the Deji Tinubu Lagos Athletics Club Series while announcing the work plan for 2025.
The bi-annual event, which was held in June 2023, attracted different athletic clubs across the country and saw winners from Lagos and Ogun States finishing the top three.
The first position went to Agroterra Athletics Academy, and the champions were rewarded with the sum of N1,000,000. Udo-Obong Athletics Club Academy came second and got N600,000, while in the third place, Eagle Sight Academy was presented with N400,000 during the brief ceremony
Speaking at the event, Chairman, Lagos State Athletics Association, Dr. Solomon Alao said over 70 scholarships were won by various athletes who participated in the Deji Tinubu Athletics Classics.
The LSAA boss announced a series of events lined up for next year, including the second edition of the Deji Tinubu/Lagos Club Athletics Series, which promises to be exciting and well packaged.
He stated that the new technical department of the Association be filled by eminent people with personalities and seasoned coaches will bring the expertise to ensure that the association achieve even greater results in the coming years.
‘We have collaborated with Ogun State pretty closely in the last couple of years, running competition back to back. We are happy with where we are now and the progress achieved so far”
The Vice Chairman, Mrs Yemisi Tinubu, said the Lagos State Athletics Association is delighted to finally reward the clubs, noting that the next edition, which will hold next year will be bigger than the maiden edition.
“We are looking forward to rewarding a lot more athletes and having a lot more clubs participating in the Classic. We don’t do small measures in Lagos State because of the person we are honoring. The late Deji Tinubu was so big on rewarding talent, developing, and unearthing athletes in various sports”, she emphasized.
Tinubu applauded the efforts of the LSAA Chairman, Dr Alao, for the immense support towards the highly successful championship and other programs of the Association.
The LSAA also confirmed the new technical department with substantive appointments of personalities into substantive positions. The revamped and highly fortified technical department is headed by Otegbeye Adefunlola Olufunke while Abiodun Ibrahim as Performance Director and Billy Disu as the Program Director.
