Barely 24 hours after the duo of Lagos State badminton athletes, Anuoluwapo Opeyori and Godwin Olofua made headline given Team Nigeria much needed gold and silver medals at the ongoing 13th All African Games in Accra, Ghana, another Lagos promising athlete, Adijat Adenike Olarinoye (MON) repeated her usual feat struggle-free to boost the country on the medal table on Monday.
The Commonwealth Games gold medalist was at her best in the weightlifting events held on Monday and she swooped three gold medals in a row to make statement of her great exploits in the events.
Independent News Express reports that Olarinoye won three gold medals in the women’s 55kg category for Team Nigeria with a dominant performance.
She lifted 185kg in total to earn her third gold after clean lift in snatch with 80kg as well as clean and jerk with 105kg.
The Lagos State Sports Commission hailed Olarinoye’s outstanding outing, describing her as a worthy ambassador of the state
“Hearty congratulations to Lagos weightlifting star, Adijat Olariniye for a dominant performance at the 13th All African Games.
“She has brought immense pride to Nigeria by clinching three gold medals in the snatch, clean jerk, and total weightlifting categories.
“I am incredibly proud of Adijat and all our Lagos athletes who are putting the spotlight on Lagos State at the All African Games,” said the Director General of the Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu.
