Organisers of the much anticipated U-16 Princess Mabel Madojiemu Athletics Competition would begin screening exercise on Wednesday to ensure that the objectives of the tournament is really achieved.
This was disclosed by Head coach of Athletics, Edo State Sports Commission, Mutiu Oluwa while chatting with our correspondent ahead of the competition.
The screening exercise would begin on Wednesday morning at Igueben Grammar School, Igueben, Edo State.
The athletics competition which is being sponsored by Nigeria’s former quarter-miler, Princess Mabel Madojiemu would begin from 21 through 23, February at the Igueben Grammar School, Igueben Edo State.
Oluwa who is also a member of the organising committe said a total of 15 schools with their athletes have registered for the competition and noted that only the athletes who meet the requirements are expected to take part in the three days competition.
“We are going to start our screening exercise on Wednesday because we don’t want athletes who are aboved 16 years old in the competition.
“Secondly we are going to look other factors to ensure that athletes are thoroughly screened before the commencement of the competition.
“I am using this medium to urge the school owners, game masters and principals to present their athletes who are within the age bracket and avoid age cheat for the screening,”he said.
