The President, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Otuekong Bonny Nyong has commended the Super Eagles for their gallant performance against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the second round fixture of the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated the five-time African champions 2-0 in one of the most memorable matches of the AFCON.
Otuekong Nyong praised the fortitude of the players, who says fought gallantly to defend the pride and honour of Nigeria in African football.
“I want to specially commend the players, they rose to the occasion and held their ground; they represented the true spirit of Nigerians, who never give up, no matter the obstacle.
“The players have once again proven that where there is will, there will always be a way, Nigerians are proud of them and will continue to pray for them,” he stated.
The number one sports journalist in Nigeria commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the outstanding allowances and bonuses of the players, adding that it went a long way to ginger them.
He tasked the team to continue to take each match as it comes, pointing out that their efforts would be rewarded in the long run with the trophy.
