Thank You Mr Governor: Lagos Sports Commission Hails Sanwo-Olu’s Support For Successful Outing At Asaba 2023

The management of Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) has described Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the chief supporter, Chief Motivator and the Big Fans of Team Lagos at the recently concluded 7th National Youth Games which was held in Asaba, Delta State.

Independent News Express reports that Team Lagos came second overall on the medal table.

In the course of the Games, Governor Sanwo-Olu suprised the athletes and their officials when he shared on his social medal handles to congratulate Team Lagos on their performance at the Asaba 2023, as the Governor poured a glowing encomium on the team.

Sanwo-Olu’s action was seen as the first among the Governors of all the participating states at the championship to go all out to identify with his state’s contingent at the youth games since inception.

“We all felt elated when we saw Mr Governor’s tweets on the social media. We were proud of him, and the athletes were equally happy,” said Travih Nunayon, Director, Sports Development at the Lagos State Sports Commission while speaking during a press conference where the management took time to review Team Lagos’ participation at the Asaba 2023 Games.

“The Governor’s message was a morale booster to all of us taking part in the competition. we were so happy including some of the parents who were on ground in Asaba to motivate their wards.

“On behalf of the management of Lagos State Sports Commission we say a big thank you to our sports loving Governor, who has always been our pillar of support in all we are doing. We are highly grateful to him. We will do more because more is expected of us,” Nunayon said.

The  Director School Sports, Dr. Oluyomi Oluwasanmi  said the sports commission also recognised the support from Lagos education sector, which was solidly behind them to achieve the feat recorded at the Games. 

Dr Oluwasanmi said that the effort, collaboration and synergy made the success possible, adding that the Commission applauded everybody from the Ministry of Education, the six education districts, state universl education board, the private schools proprietors and more importantly, the parents for believing in them.

“The project of ‘One Lagos’ was achieved to the fullest at the 7th National Youth Games,” Dr Oluwasanmi said.
