Warns Benjamin On Dangers of Imposition
The President, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Otuekong Bonny Nyong, has rubbished insinuations that Olalekan Ige has been suspended as the Deputy Secretary General of the Association.
Otuekong Nyong, who described the purported suspension as “laughable, reckless, and irresponsible,” noted that there had been no National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Association to warrant such insinuation.
According to him, “As the President of SWAN, I have not called for any NEC meeting, and there is absolutely no reason to think of suspending the deputy secretary general, who has been very efficient and responsive.
“In fact, we have been full of commendations for Olalekan Ige in the way and manner he has been discharging his duties; he works tirelessly and generally helps to ensure smooth running of the Association.”
The SWAN President called on sports writers and stakeholders to ignore an illegal statement claiming to have suspended the deputy secretary general from the office.
He warned Isaiah Benjamin to stop parading himself as the president of the Association, saying he had long been removed from office after following due processes as enshrined in the Statute.
“I wish to state that anybody dealing with Isaiah Benjamin as SWAN President is embracing an impostor who has been removed from office for several acts of infraction agaisnt SWAN Statute.
“For the benefit of discerning sports journalists and stakeholders, I, Otuekong Bonny Nyong, is the President of SWAN and ably deputised by Gara Gombe.
“We have gone through all the processes and wish to state that in the coming days, our members will have cause to celebrate,” he stated.
