The leadership crisis rocking the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) is getting more interesting by the day with the latest development coming out from the camp of some of the National Executive Committee (NEC) who suspended President Isaiah Benjamin.
The NEC, who rose from their meeting, took some far reaching decisions, ordering the taking over of SWAN presidency by Otuekong Nyong and setting up an investigative panel to probe Benjamin
While Nyong had since accepted the responsibility of taking over the leadership of the association as directed in a notice he sent to the association’s Full Council on Wednesday , Nyong on Thursday inaugurated the three-man Independent Investigative Committee (IIN).
A press statement signed by Olalekan Ige, Deputy General Secretary of the association says, while activating the IIC to do a thorough work devoid of favouritism or bias, Otuekong Nyong noted that the essence of their assignment is not to witch-hunt anybody but to ensure that the association thrives on laid down rules and regulations.
He charged the committee to be guided by the Statute of the Association while discharging their duties and ensure that their finding is submitted within the stipulated time.
In his response, the chairman of the committee, Nura Garba Muhammad , thanked the President for the opportunity to serve and promised that they would work in accordance with the Association’s Statute and in strict confidence.
Other members of the IIC are Olatutu Oladunni (Secretary) and Foster Chime (member).
The three-man committee was given 90 days to complete its work.
