The National Chairman of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC) Rev. (Amb) Samuel Ikpea has finally revealed his plan ahead of the plan by the football ruling body in the country Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to bring the multiple supporters clubs in Nigeria under one umbrella.
Ikpea disclosed this during a radio programme Sports Zone on lagostalk91.3fm on Friday where he talked about his intention for the unification plan and also corrected that he was not a member of the interim committee set up on February 13th, 2025 at the NFF conference hall.
“I am not a member of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) set up by the NFF’ Ikpea started. “But when it is time for the proper election to take place for the NFF to constitute an executive that will pilot the affairs of the United Supporters Club, I will run for the position of the President” Ikpea stated categorically.
As a follow-up, Media Consultant to the NFSC, Chief Darlington Umoru who was also on the programme with Ikpea hinted that it was ideal for someone from the NFSC to lead the United Supporters Club which the NFSC is about to create as this will help stabilize the system.
“NFSC is going to be 70 this year, the experience which Ikpea has gathered from a club, as 2nd Assistant National secretary, National secretary, secretary General and National chairman, with a structure only makes him the most appropriate person” Umoru started.
“Most of these persons who are parading themselves broke away from the NFSC and do not have the required experience to manage the structure which the NFF is creating and I believe Ikpea is the right candidate’ he concluded.
Recall that in the past six years, there have been multiple supporters clubs in Nigeria supporting the National teams, but with the NFF’S plan to address the crises, the Interim Management Committee serving as steering committee will hold a brief for one year after which election will be conducted before the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Furthermore, the Interim Management Committee which will hold brief for nine months before election takes place in February 2026 is being chaired by Vincent Okumagba, and the MOU signed by all representatives of the six supporters clubs at the NFF Secretariat forbids a member of the IMC to run in the election proper.
