Team Philips football team have emerged as champions after defeated Jeffy Okis football team 2-0 in the final of Super 4 Catamount Tourney which held on Sunday at the Border playground, Isheri, Ojodu Berger, Lagos.
When both team met in the group stage, they played goalless draw but Philips boys proved the bookmakers wrong by defeating Jeff Okis who were favourite to win the the tournament.
A goal from Timi Omotayo and Chiazam Ochiegbu in each half was team Philips needed to overcome their opponents in an encounter watched by hundred of spectators.
Reacting to the team’s victory, coach of team Philips, Omeiza James attributed their hard fought victory as a result of commitment and dedication on the part of his players
“It was a tough match and i am happy that we shamed our critics.Before the game, nobody gave us chance but today (Sunday) we shamed them.I commend my boys for their resilience and doggedness they showed throughout the tournament.It was a sweet victory and we would continue to celebrate this victory for days to come,”he said.
In his own remark,Ayoola Idris Olusegun said the Super 4 competition was organised to keep the players busy among the Catamount Football Club and also give some outside players an opportunity to show interest in the club.
“The competition was organised by Catamount FC.We divided our team into four and allowed the teams to invite players from other clubs to complete the full team.We started this tournament a month ago and i thank God that it ended well.
“Secondly we organised this tourney because the club is not in any competition for now and we don’t want our players to be idle so a tourney like this brings the best out of the players and i commend all the four teams for their commitment showed throughout the one month event,”he said.
Commenting on the Catamount FC, Olusegun said the club is waxing stronger and ready to play tough team in Lagos in a friendly match.
He said the just concluded Super 4 tourney has improved the performance of some players and boasted that they are ready to play competition within its environment.
During the presentation, Team Philips received a trophy and sum of N100,000, while Jeff Okis pocketed N80,000 for their second position as Valiant and Uptown Shooters that maintain third and fourth position on the table also received N60,000 and N40,000 respectively.
