The Lagos State Sports Commission has kicked off the Y2023 End of Year Sports Fiesta, with a medical outreach for its staff.
A weeklong event with the theme: ‘Stronger2gether” started at the Mobolaji Johnson Rowe Park Sports Center, Yaba.
Officers were examined in a series of medical screening including height rate, weight balance, blood pressure, random blood sugar and a dental check. The rationale behind the medical exercise is to increase the awareness of maintaining a good healthy lifestyle which has been the mantra of the sports commission and in preparation for the end of the year fiesta Games.
The week is scheduled to have various sporting events starting Tuesday with Handball, Volleyball, Five A Side, Beach Badminton, Abula, Basketball, Tug of War, TableTennis, Ayo, Chess, Scrabble, Monopoly and other Board Games.
Director General, Lagos State Sports Commission, Oluwatoyin Gafaar, said the medical outreach was designed for staff to know their health and fitness status so as to manage all conditions.
Gafaar stated that “We are in sports both physically and mentally but no matter what, we need to check if we are medically fit, and it’s compulsory we start from home and that’s why we are starting our celebration week with the medical outreach for the staff of the Lagos State Sports Commission.
“Also, we are giving everyone the opportunity to have a dental check. All this is to ensure that the staff are fit to do their jobs because they are the face of the Commission.”
According to Director, Sports Medicine, Dr. Bukola Bojuwoye, the purpose of the medical outreach is to know the medical database of the staff and ascertain their level of fitness before they can participate in any sport.
“We have to check their health status so for that to be possible we have different type of tests on ground, such as blood sugar, blood pressure and diabetes and so on. Also to help all the staff know where they stand”.
Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports, Damilare Orimoloye said the medical outreach aside physical fitness, the next is mental health, so what we are having today is a way for the staff to celebrate their end of the year session by bonding together, so the first day of it is for the staff to check their sugar level, blood pressure and different kinds of test to know their health status and know how to adjust.
The event with the hash tag “Stronger2gether” is a source of unity and an avenue for staff of the commission to come together under various teams to compete healthily, fairly and celebrate the long work relationship.
Participants were divided into four groups via ballot named Team Commitment, Unity, Peace and Strength with appointed patrons and matrons including the competition director.
The week-long celebration of the Lagos State Sports Commission aimed to foster unity amongst staff continues with games, sports events, and Carol Service which will end with an End-of the Year Party.
