Perfect Touch Football Academy have brighten their chances of qualifying for the Super Eight after defeating Infinite Football Academy 1-0 in the ongoing U-16 Star Youth Football League taking place across the centres in Ikorodu, Lagos.
Perfect Touch need outright victory in their last match to book a place in the super eight.Perfect Touch have played two matches with four points and their last group match on Thursday would decide if they would be the best two in their group to qualify for the super eight.
A goal from Lawal Azeem in the early first half earned Perfect Touch hard fought victory over Infinite on Saturday at the Zumuratu School, Igbogbo, Ikorodu.
Speaking on the encounter, Perfect Touch Coach, Sunday Tula John expressed optimism that his team would qualify for the super eight boasting that their next match is victory or nothing.
“We are nearing the qualification for the super eight after our disappointing outing in the opening match.My boys did well against Infinite and they would approach their last match like a cup final to get needed victory.Anything short of that would be a huge disappointment,”he said.
Match Commissioner, Adegunle Kayode said he was impressed with the performance of the two teams and good officiating from the match officials.
He said the centre has witnessed large turnout of football fans since the league started two weeks ago saying that the league has caught the attention of football stakeholders in Ikorodu and its environs.
While one of the tournament cordinators, Banjo Fagbemi noted that the league is a talk of the town in Ikorodu and commeded the organising committee for the job well done.
“Honestly, I am surprised that our league has been rated one of the best leagues in Ikorodu in term of organisation, officiating and quality of teams taking part in the league.I thank other organising Committee members for their unrelenting efforts to make this this league a glamorous and memorable one. I wish all the teams best of luck in their remaining matches,” he said.
