The Southwest Zonal Elimination for the 21st National Sports Festival began on Tuesday with Team Lagos making a quick win to register their names on the podium as they clinched the two slots to represent the zone in both softball and baseball.
At the expense of Team Oyo, the Lagos state male teams stopped Oyo State boys in the baseball encounter with 11-2 runs victory, while the Lagos female team defeated their counterparts from Oyo State 5-0 runs in the softball event.
However, the female volleyball event did not go down well with the Lagos team losing to Oyo State 3-0. They lost the three sets of the game (25-22, 25-21, 25-16).
Today’s matches were played at the centre of the zonal elimination at the Lanreleke Sports Academy, Ile-Ogbo in Iwo, Osun State
Over 800 athletes from Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti State are participating in football, basketball, handball, volleyball, hockey, base/softball and beach volleyball.
The 21st edition of the National Sports Festival (NSF) which was earlier scheduled to take place between 2-15 November, will now hold from 28 November till 10 December.
