Director-General, Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu has applauded the Lagos State Cricket Association for organising a Schools Cricket developmental programme for pupils aged 4-12 years in both Private and Public Schools.
Fatodu gave the commendation at the second phase of the Schools Development Programme held recently at the Cricket Oval, the University of Lagos Sports Complex, Akoka, Yaba.
He described the event as a way of developing Sports at the grassroots and encouraging mass participation by introducing pupils in primary schools to the sports, which helps in building confidence, character and team building.
Fatodu stated that the presence of the Lagos State Sports Commission is a testament to the commitment of the state government to develop all sports and support the various Associations in enhancing productivity and potential.
The DG appreciated the Cricket Association for initiating this project as a way of promoting the sport, saying “I know the role of education in sport, so we need to collaborate more with the Ministry of Education to bring the best out of the children. As such, we want all the stakeholders to use this as an opportunity to collaborate to achieve more”.
“With the support of the Lagos State Government, a “Train the Trainer” Course will be organised so that we can identify the areas where we can improve the capacity, as well as provide tools and kits that will bring the best individuals out in various sporting areas”, Fatodu added.
